see you next year!

December is easily one of the busiest months of the year, so rather than add to your already long list of things to do, we're taking the month off. Be sure to look for a new happy hour in January--most likely in the Mission. Happy holidays to you and yours!

One last thing, thank you to everyone who helped us raise over $100 in two events for two exceptional San Francisco-based nonprofits. In 2010 it's our aim to help even more nonprofits with our philanthropic happy hours. Want to suggest a nonprofit to support? Email: theBSsociety@yahoo.com.

Just a reminder that we'll be at 15 Romolo next Wednesday, October 28 from 6-8 p.m. Bring friends, coworkers, plenty of high-fives and be sure to order the Eye in the Sky--$2 from every special cocktail sold benefits Maitri.

build social capital while saving the world

Are you familiar with Falernum? How about Maitri? Let's chat.

Falernum is a housemade ingredient used in the special cocktail that'll be offered at 15 Romolo Wednesday, October 28. Maitri is "one of San Francisco's most respected and valued resources in providing care to people severely debilitated by AIDS."

We're supporting Maitri this month by offering $6 Eye in the Sky cocktails (El Mayor tequila, lime juice, pineapple juice, Falernum, Peychaud's bitters, sage leaf and nutmeg garnish). Two dollars from every Eye in the Sky sold between 6-8 p.m. goes directly to Maitri.

Please join us, bring friends, build your social capital and make it a great night for one of San Francisco's most well-regarded hospices.

change of plans

Flexibility is essential for success and in order to have a successful gathering of The BS Society it's being postponed until October. Dates, time and location TBA.

change we can believe in

It's good to mix things up and that's why The BS Society will hop around town every once in a while. Wednesday, September 30 we'll be at Cantina (near Union Square), a place known for its superstar bartenders and cocktails. Click here to see what Esquire magazine has to say about 'em.

this month: Project Open Hand

When this group began, it was with reciprocity in mind and to help reinforce that value we'll be highlighting a charitable organization each month. For August, it's Project Open Hand.

Tuesday, August 25 from 5-8 p.m. we'll offer $4 Guava Gimlets handcrafted by the folks at 15 Romolo and sponsored by Pearl vodka. One dollar from every gimlet sold will benefit Project Open Hand. It's a fantastic deal and it helps a great cause.

great deal while supporting a good cause

Thanks to Pearl vodka and 15 Romolo we'll be offering $4 Guava Gimlets at our next gathering on August 25 from 5-8 p.m. Most importantly, $1 from each Guava Gimlet sold that evening will go to charity. Which charity? I'm still working on that, but I'm open to suggestions. Feel free to leave ideas in the comments section.

last night

Last night was fun! Thanks to everyone who made it out. For those who couldn't make it, be sure to follow the updates on Twitter to see when the August event will take place.

A quick recap of last night:

It became clear early on that people were going to chat regardless of the "profession badges" so we ditched 'em and proceeded with a flawlessly fun night of meeting new, interesting folks while enjoying the rockin' tunes of 15 Romolo's jukebox and the handcrafted cocktails and bar bites they're known for. It was noisy, crowded and a gem of an evening.

See you next month!

what to expect

Who likes name badges? Not me. That's why you won't see any names on badges at The Back Scratchers Society. In fact, there won't be any "ice breakers" or "mixers" this Thursday. The idea is to show up (with friends!), enjoy handcrafted cocktails and seasonal bar bites while chatting with people whose professions or creative ideas are compelling to you.

How will you know who to talk to?

That's where the badges come in. I'll be handing them out when folks arrive. Instead of writing your name, you'll write the industry you work in, the industry you want to work in, a creative idea you have, business idea, or product idea (instant paella?). It's up to you. The idea is for the badge to serve as a springboard for conversation. Names can always be shared later.

See you there!

see you at 15 Romolo on July 30th

Thanks for your patience in waiting for the location of our first gathering. It's going to take place July 30th at one of my favorite spots in town--15 Romolo in North Beach. (Click here for a write-up on 15 Romolo in the San Francisco Chronicle.)

I'm heading over there today to talk about drink and food specials, so stay tuned!
